Shorter first names mean more income. Somehow this study finds that every extra letter means a $3,600 drop, and that shorter nicknames like Bill mean more success than full names like William. They even go so far as to say Michele earns more than Michelle.

None of this is going to sit well with Maximilian Schell or Bartholomew J. Simpson.

But I predict a run on Al, Ed and Bob in the next Social Security list of baby names.
