So, I've watched the movie about 2093407307 times but I had never read the book.

Picked it up yesterday at my library and have read about five chapters so far.

The one thing that jumped out at me was the setting. The movie is set in San Francisco, the book Boston. Anyone know why the locale and team was changed in the movie?

Same reason "Fever Pitch" was set in London as a book, and Boston as a movie: Because Hollywood is stupid.

Isn't it about time for them to remake the movie? :D

The only good thing about that movie is that it was fatal blow to Jimmy Fallon's movie career.

That movie includes and entire story and plot that doesn't exist in the book.
The book was interesting. I refuse to watch the movie.

The first Fever Pitch movie was set in London.

And yes, The Fan was terrible. At least the DeNiro-Snipes one. The one with Lauren Bacall was good, just really weird.

I might be asking for trouble, but I thought the movie was awful.

No trouble needed. You are absolutely correct. Horrible and profoundly unrealistic movie.

Which one?
The Fan? Yes, it was.
Fever Pitch? Yes, it was.

I meant the Fan in my first post, but yes both sucked. It was the Deniro version I saw. It was on one day after work. I was on the elliptical and didn't feel like stepping off to change the channel. Then Deniro stabbed some guy and I gave up and turned on Designing Women.

They made a different version?

The Fan is a fun guilty pleasure. De Niro, Snipes, and a ridiculous, over-the-top sports plot? I'm in.

I concur, but I just can't get past one fact - this movie wasn't good.

Love DeNiro, love Snipes, love baseball, love suspense, so I'm wondering how this movie got screwed up.

And it really sucked, too.

There was an earlier Fever Pitch with Colin Firth about a man, his obsession with the Arsenal football team, and the conflict that comes into play when he meets a woman. Guessing this one was closer to the book, which I have not read.

Fever Pitch the book was great.

Fever Pitch the movie sucked.

The Fan is one of the worst sports films ever.

I think they set it in San Francisco so people would go see it thinking it was a Barry Bonds biopic ...

They were clearly trying to make the Snipes character seem like Bonds.

And failed miserably.
