Weird. I actually know the guy who wrote that.

I am not sure why it didn't occur to him that there is a very easy in between. First, you can get decent (but not foo foo, best on the planet) locally roasted coffee where he is, for much less money than he is talking about. And it tastes way better than Maxwell House instant coffee. In fact, it's a pretty competitive marketplace, which keeps things in check. I dunno. There are plenty of us who drink a lot of coffee and don't feel a need to be obsessive about it or bankrupt ourselves over it. The options that are way better than Maxwell House instant coffee are manifold.

There's a time and place for everything, I guess. I enjoy my daybreak ritual of making coffee (usually Costa Rican) in my French press and drinking it out on the patio while the dogs run around.

On the other hand, I avoid overpriced coffee houses like the plague and can find great pleasure in a styrofoam cup filled with steaming black gas station joe.

I also don't mind Eight O'Clock of Chock Full of Nuts coffee.

I always figured people who drink instant coffee in crystal form are masochists or just really impatient.

Was thinking Bustelo or Melita is definitely better than Maxwell House and is not a lot more expensive. I can drink any coffee or any beer. Doesn't seem like the real good coffee is as expensive as some of the real good craft beers though.

I read the entire article, thinking a woman wrote it. Not sure why, but I was surprised when I got to the end and saw that a guy wrote it.

As the author points out, Cafe Bustelo already owns this designation in the minds of a lot of coffee drinkers.

Seems to be a huge gap between paying $18 for a pound of coffee beans and Folger's crystals.

Also, this sentence makes me think that I would not like that writer if I knew him in person:
