All I can think of now is that Colt 45 commercial in which Billy Dee Williams says, "Works every time."

I'd say it's more like $300.00

Edit: I compounded a dollar at 5 percent since 1975.

Three Bags,

OK, I just pulled a number out of my ass.

I don't understand the 5% compounded. I understand how it works but how did you come up with 5%? Just curious because I have no clue

I was comparing the Ontario minimum wage then and new and the average middle class wage back then.

I figured the average inflation was about five percent.

TBF,
You may be right.
In 1972 I had a flat (second floor of a very large house). Big rooms, fireplace in the LR, separate dining room.
Paid $95.00 a month.
Same would probably cost $800-$1000 a month now.
Just trying to work out the comparables.

The 1970's had STYLE. It just wasn't good. :-\

NB: I feel that I am competent to declare this having attended high school from 1973 to 1978 and having owned any number of high waisted cuffed pants with matching bomber jackets, worn with platform saddle shoes.

Personal note: I would also point out that while JR was living in his groovy bachelor pad I was in elementary school. :D

The rate of inflation from Jan. 1975 to Jan. 2007 is roughly 300 percent (according to the first inflation calculator I found with a Google search).

So, TBF is about right with his $102.

Graduated in 1977. While plenty of people dressed that way, we didn't. My school had a no-jeans, no-sneakers dress code until my senior year, so the uniform among us longhairs was Levis straight-leg corderoys or khakis, cotton buttondown-collar shirt or flannel shirt, tan workboots or beat-up loafers or Wallabees and in winter a down jacket.

See? We white chicks are nuts ... we're wearing all this stuff again ...

I've posted this link before, but these guys do a hilarious job dissecting fashion catalogs from the 60s and 70s:

Damn, that's great stuff. I remember my 70s blue jeans moment in high school. Walking down the hall, a hottie walking just ahead of me wearing jeans with a zipper that started in the front and continued between her legs and up to her beltline in back. I may have been a high school looser and never made it with the ladies, but I sure as hell knew what that zipper was all about.

Yeah, I work downtown where I see A LOT of fashion do's and don'ts. Let me tell you: money does not buy good taste.
