Moving this from the Take Care of Yourself thread, just seemed wrong.

It's summer, it's hot, I don't like beer....what else are you drinking??

A simple thing I've been doing: I bought a plastic pitcher at Target (it's pretty, has blue fish on it) and keep it filled with water and slices of lemon, orange or lime. About six slices, mix and match. The fruit is good for about three days, as long as I keep refilling the pitcher. I'm drinking a lot more water because it's cold and tastes good without artificial sweeteners or strange chemicals.

What a great idea....I've been doing that for years, but I've been using vodka.

I think my recipe is for a different thread. I'm going to try yours today.

I believe watermelon is the best for the vodka, because it soaks up more :D

Either way, I'm coming to your house!

Yeah, but anyone can do that. Here's my recipe, I promise you will be invited to every party for the rest of your life.

Reward for Taking Care of Yourself #1

Big bottle of mediocre vodka (ie Smirnoff, you will never taste it, trust me)
Big jar of maraschino cherries in that sticky red syrup
Couple cans of pineapple chunks in juice

--Fill half a big jug with fruit and the juices
--Fill the rest with vodka
--Adjust proportions according to your personal tolerance
--Leave in the fridge for 6-7 years, or overnight, depending on your schedule.

To serve, fill a big glass with ice, a scoop of fruit, and whatever liquid you can fit in there.
Optional, a splash of Mike's Hard Lemonade to cut the sweetness.
One bite of fruit = seventeen martinis, depending on how long you've marinated.

Reward #2, aka the Boom-erang

Same concept using:
Big jar/can of sliced peaches in light syrup
Big can of mandarin oranges
Fresh blackberries

Beware the blackberries, those little things are deceptively absorbent.

Really, you can mix anything, altho I can tell you that watermelon and strawberries fall apart and look sick. Other melon works well (green and orange).

Best part is, when you come home late and you don't really want a drink but you sort of do....one little cherry and a bite of a peach goes a long way.

God help me, but I like Boom's better. I like peachers and oranges.

I have some bing cherries, but I'm assuming those won't work as well.

Mmmmm, those sound great. When I decide to start drinking again, I'll have to try one.

This is my fav, and you pretty much have to make them one at a time.

Strawberry Sex

Fill glass halfway with ice.
Add raspberry vodka (I use Stoli) to the halfway point.
Add lemonade to fill the glass 3/4
Add strawberry puree to fill glass to top.
Stir

The world's most perfect pink frou-frou drink

The peaches are my favorite too. I'm going to try a batch with fresh peaches thrown in (but you still need the canned stuff for the syrup.

I don't think the bing cherries will work, but if you pit them first, and leave the middle empty, they'd be amazing.

I'm actually working on a chocolate covered version of the marinated maraschino cherries, but I can't get the chocolate to harden over the vodka.

Forgot to mention....any of this fruit over vanilla ice cream.

Sangria is good.

Here's a basic recipe but it's the meatloaf of drinks: everyone has their own way of doing it.

About the only constants are red wine & club soda

Had the pleasure of having white sangria about a year ago. Didn't know there was such a thing, but it was excellent. Been trying to find places that serve it, or a recipie, ever since.

Simple stuff - cold lemonade and Stoli raspberry.

Crazy stuff - Bacardi margarita mix thrown in the blender with rum, a Mike's Hard Limeade and fresh strawberries and blackberries.

They make a powdered sangria mix that you add the alcohol to, but I don't know if it's the white sangria.

Just making sure, but is your basic recipe red wine and club soda?

I remember in college drinking jungle juice, which would get you incredibly ****ed up.

I used to like a little dry vermouth on the rocks with a twist of lemon. Nice apertif.

Thanks. I can only handle wine and wine-based drinks every so often, just because it is a different kind of drunkenness. Plus, wine gives me killer hangovers.

The best mixed drink I've had in a long, long time: a mojito.

Bacardi's recommends the following recipe:
1 part rum
3 parts club soda
12 mint leaves
1/2 lime
1/2 part sugar

I can't imagine a better non-beer drink on a summer day.

The mojito is my new favorite drink.

There is no better dessert than Bailey's over vanilla ice cream... try the new mint chocolate Bailey's, too.

In college we would buy a watermelon, scoop some out of the top, drain the juice and refill by pouring vodka in. Slice it up like normal and it's awesome. Only need to wait about 30 minutes, because as 21 said, it will get soggy and nasty if marinated.

Don't think I've had one of those, but damn ... I'm gonna have to try one.

Lots and lots of water and ice tea.

Sometimes a beer. If so, JW Dundee's Honey Brown. Or Four Roses Bourbon
