I agree, but it also turns the screws a little on the teams thinking about getting a bat (Angels, Yankees, etc.). Demand remains roughly the same, as I haven't heard much about the Rangers looking to deal, while supply drops by one.

True but Doug Melvin seems to like bringing ex-Rangers to Milwaukee.

I'm a big higher on Mench than that. I think his splits were pretty even home and away. Cordero isn't worth much and Nix is more potential than reality, but since Lee is also a FA in two and a half months it's not like the Brewers could really fleece anyone.

Carlos Lee tears it up at Wrigley so I was hoping he'd sign with the Cubs in the offseason.

Of course if he does that he won't get to hit against Cub pitching at Wrigley, which will most certainly reduce his effectiveness.

As a Brewers fan, I don't like this deal. I had my hopes up for getting at least a very good prospect for Lee, especially if a team got desperate. Mench is OK, Cordero is overrated and I agree that Nix is more potential than reality. What really gets me is that they traded Nelson Cruz -- Cruz is a very good outfield prospect. I wouldn't have as much of a problem with this deal if Cruz wasn't involved.

Lee's 30 and a bad defensive player.

I think it is a very good trade for the Brewers potentially.

Price doesn't go up one bit. Lee is a potential two-month rental, far different than Abreu, who has two more years at $23 million or something like that? If the Phillies want to dump salary -- and the only way to entice Abreu to do the trade is for that new team to pick up his pricey 2008 option -- then they can't demand top prospects at the same time when the other team would be doing them a favor.

The Phillies will get what's offered to them and like it.

Then Gillick won't deal. I'm not sure why folks continue to perpetuate this myth that the Phils are desperate to dump Abreu at any cost. Is he expensive next year? Yes. Can the Phillies afford him next year? No question.

I'll be stunned if Abreu is dealt for beans. At the same time, I'll be surprised if he's moved at all. My guess is the Angels and Yankees are the only real options for him and one of them may get Soriano.

Lee is better than Soriano (and as good as Carlos Beltran -- check their career numbers), yet might fetch less in trade.

lee's a hell of a hitter -- probably even a batter hitter than beltran. but beltran is a much, much better baserunner and defensive player

of course, defense doesn't matter in fantasy baseball, so who cares about that?

Not sure why the Brewers traded for Nix. Aren't they already strong up the middle with Dave Krynzel and Corey Hart (insert sunglasses at night joke here)? But I do like the Mench pickup, and maybe Cordero will benefit from Mike Maddux's tutelage.

And now the Rangers have a devastating combo of Young-Teixeira-Lee (assuming Big Tex snaps out of his funk). If Blalock could improve his pathetic .584 OPS over the last month, the Rangers could slug their way to the AL West title.
