Northwest Arkansas Newspapers seeks a sports reporter who has a passion to write compelling enterprise, breaking news, features and columns; Tweet, blog and produce multimedia as part of an eight-person sports department that serves four local, daily newspapers. Applicants should have two years daily sports reporting experience, a degree in journalism or related field and a working knowledge of Associated Press style. This person works from our Fayetteville office and must be able to work nights and weekends.


Northwest Arkansas has a population of approximately 350,000 and is located in the beautiful Ozark Mountains. Home to Wal-Mart, Tyson and other business giants, the area is one of the fastest growing in the region. This area is known to be great for anyone who enjoys outdoor sports. My guess is preps. This sounds like a bottom-rung position and my impression is they generally don't put newbies on the Razorbacks.

Stephens and WEHCO merged in NWA to form Northwest Arkansas Newspapers, LLC. The four papers from the NWA area come as wrap-arounds to the Democrat-Gazette each day.

Thanks. Yea, it's a prep deal. It's a really unique model they have down there, with one beat reporter for each of the six 7A high schools. If you're a fan of local news, it's definitely a win-win. My favorite papers to budget at my college daily were the ones that had all original content and no national wire.

My sister is a junior at UA, so it will be nice to be close to her for support, and all virtually all my athlete friends from when I was at school there (only went my freshman year before transferring to Colorado State) are in grad school now, so that will be nice. My folks are out in Tulsa, so this will be a bit of a homecoming.
