The Villages Daily Sun, Florida’s largest daily printed newspaper (and the only newspaper in America's largest 25 that is still growing), is seeking a sports journalist to help lay out our award-winning sports section.

We’re looking for a sports designer with experience making content decisions under deadline pressure — someone who is comfortable working with both wire and local sports content. We have a robust sports section that includes national roundups of all major sports (in particular, knowledge of professional golf is helpful) as well as coverage of The Villages' recreation and local high school sports scene.

We offer a generous newshole, impeccable print quality, modern tech resources (fully Mac and Adobe Creative Suite shop) and leadership support that enable good visual journalists to become truly great.

We're a print-centric market with a brand new printing plant, the first to be built in America in the last decade. This means we still enjoy late publication deadlines for sporting events in all time zones. It also means you can focus on strong visual storytelling without a digital distraction, and that you can experience the joy of creative collaboration in the newsroom instead of the vacuum of remote workflow.

We offer competitive pay, excellent benefits and access to a highly regarded charter school system in one of the state’s most idyllic settings.

Apply by filling out the application for the “production editor” position at the link below.

Once upon a time, this job would have been right in my wheelhouse.

Wait a minute ... I'm 54 years old. I can almost be a RESIDENT of The Villages! ;)

Damn. The Daily Sun was the competition at my first newspaper and some of us sports guys would go play Villages golf courses on our days off. I'm also getting perilously close to being eligible to live on their fairways.
