Eric Maynor just became the fave for this 2007 NCAA Tournament's Petey Sessoms Award (the award I gave on my old blog to best performance by a guy I'd never heard of before Championship Week).
About its origin...one of my colleagues covered the '92 first two rounds in Worcester and came back raving about Sessoms, a freshman at Old Dominion who torched Kentucky for 30 points even thought UK cruised. Three years later, we're all gathered 'round the TV on first round Friday as Petey carried ODU on his back to a triple-OT upset of third-seeded Villanova in a game that makes my all-time March Madness Top 10.
Last year's went to George Mason as a team.

Big deal. With nearly 30,000 undergrads, there better be a couple dozen hot girls.

Did you see that student section tonight? It was quite clear the overwhelming major was remedial math, with a minor in bandwagon jumping.

umm, I believe Mason lost in the semifinals of last year's CAA Tournament and got an 11 seed despite telling the world their point guard would be suspended for its next game for cracking Loren Stokes in the nads. Just sayin ODU & Drexel have some precedence for hope.

And as I mentioned, ODU doesn't have an AD on the selection committee.

So I hope ODU goes to the Final Four again in the NIT.
