To be perfectly honest, I wish we didn't have abortions. I feel it's a horrible practice that takes a gigantic toll on the mother without getting into the wider debate of when does life actually begin. I wish we provided more services for women who are pregnant and after they have their children. I wish there were better incentives for people to become adoptive parents and women received education about adoption if they don't feel like they can raise the child. I wish we didn't have to outlaw abortions, that it would just end on its own. There should always be provisions to help women in cases of rape/incest or in the event carrying the fetus to term would endanger the life of the mother.
Ultimately, we don't live in that world. As a result, abortion should be legal so if women feel it is their only option, they have a safe place to receive the procedure without undue risk to their lives and performed by a doctor who is bound to keep the woman safe and answerable to the police and the civil courts in the event something goes wrong.
