Rules You Would Like To See Changed in Sports

There was a clarification to the Rules of Golf after the whole Spieth incident. You now have 15 minutes to fix a mistake in scoring before DQ comes into play. It used to be the second you left the scoring area, it was over and if there was a mistake where you took a score lower than you made, you were done. It's a fair compromise.

Bringing back pitchers as hitters is nice, except it's been about 50 years since the DH was installed in the AL and it's filtered don to nearly every level of baseball.
The thing is, in today's pitch count world, you might see the starter get one at-bat, and then afterward it would be mostly pinch-hitters anyway.

That resource scarcity was what made it such interesting strategy back in the day. So you like your guy’s stuff on the mound well enough to essentially concede an out of your own? I’ve long advocated that pitchers should have to hit, but given that everybody now just throws a million arms out there you are probably right that the moment has passed.

I mentioned on the other thread the the spirt of the offside rule is to prevent an unfair advantage for the attacker. One toe past a defender is only relevant in racing. I like having it be at least a whole foot.
We have lost a lot of spirit of the rule stuff with replay. Baseball replay should be is the runner safe or out, not did physics lift his foot a hair off the bag for a split second during his slide while he was being tagged when he clearly beat the throw.

All races count equally. No points resets.
No segments in races. Sixty points to win, 50 for second, 45 for third; 25th and below each gets a single point. Bonus point for leading the most laps.
No out of bounds demarcated by a double yellow line.
Settle your fights on the track. Have at it, boys and girls. If you gotta brawl after the race, do it on pit road instead of the garage area.
Sunday races start no later than 4:40 PM. People have jobs.
Weekly autograph session at 11 AM on raceday.
The Busch Clash shall be 20 laps at high noon on Super Bowl Sunday at Daytona International Speedway. Only.

No more playoffs. Double the points for a race winner.

That did make it an interesting choice.

But now we pull pitchers working on perfect games, even if they're not coming up to bat in the next inning.

Obvious one - the hydration breaks at the World Cup have got to go.
Not necessary hydration breaks should go. Playing on a 105-degree day in Miami without a water break is evil. Getting a water break in a game that kicks at 6 pm in LA is not necessary.

It hit 110 in Orlando during a match in 1994 without a hydration break. But if they must be mandatory for player safety, they should not become commercial breaks.

Some sort of advantage or delayed call rule in women’s lacrosse that would allow a goal scored by a player being fouled to count.

My most controversial rule change is this - the national anthem should only be played before sporting events involving the national team and/or after Gold Medal wins at the Olympic. Playing it before every single stinking game from the pros down to U6 coach-pitch games cheapens it.

If a kicker can put the ball through the uprights on a kickoff, it's 1 point, and the ball is placed on the 20.
As it is, if a 15-yard defensive penalty following a touchdown is assessed on the kickoff, there is no benefit to the team that just scored. From mid field, NFL and college kickers are obviously going to kick it out the back of the end zone.

Allow individual players to go off the field to get a drink whenever they need one. Keepers have water bottles.

There, that solved these ridiculous commercial breaks.
