This women's final is a hell of a match.

Women had a mighty competitive tournament. Halep had a few marathons, and Woz came back from 1-5 down in the third set to win her second-round match. Woz also did not play a seeded player in her quarterfinal or semifinal. She also may be the first player to beat a "Bertens" and a "Mertens" in the same event.

Four and a half months after having four U.S. Open semifinalists, American women, on the other hand, barely produced a record better than the Cleveland Browns in Australia.

I thought Caro was dead down 3-4 in the third set and on a medical timeout. But she showed a heck of a lot of guile to rally and win. Seems like a player easy to root for so I'm happy for her.

I'm sure I've said this before, but one of the things I find most impressive about Federer is the way he can pull an ace out of his back pocket seemingly anytime he really needs one.

Case in point: Roger had an ace in every service game of the fifth set.

Federer never ceases to amaze me. He looked slow and exhausted after that fourth set and Cilic was hitting and moving so well...then the guy just dominates the fifth set. No 20 and no reason to think he can't get No. 21 this summer.

In soccer, Messi. In boxing, Sugar Ray Robinson, Ali. Nicklaus in golf, Babe Ruth, Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, Brady, Montana, Jim Brown. Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe. It's a long list, and a pointless argument because the sports are so different. Hell, even in tennis you have to wonder how many majors the greats of the '50s like Pancho Gonzales and Lew Hoad would've won if tennis was an open sport in their time.

Funny you should say that, but this Dad we see at my 3yo daughter's gymnastics gym has twin three year olds and twin 18 month olds, who are always in front/back Baby Bjorns.

And he always looks so ****ing tired.

There's something about what Federer does...what Serena does too...they are dominating competition nearly a generation younger in a one-on-one setting. They don't go into a tournament knowing who they are going to face or get planned favorable draws. You have 24 hours to prepare for a style that could be completely different than the one before....it's just incredible.

ESPN posted a stat. Aussie Open was the 200th tournament of the Open era that began in 1968. Federer has won one of every 10 of those tournaments.

So Federer has won 10 percent of the Open era Slams and given that Nadal has 16 and Joker has 12 it's pretty safe to say he's been dominant during a period where three of the top 10 players of all time were in their primes.
