Sochi winning means St. Petersburg is out of the race for the 2016 Games. I didn't even know it was in.

I saw a story on CTV about the Sochi bid and the city did not look ready as of a few months back. Actually there was nothing in the city, but the plan was to make the city a resort type of place.

The odds on favourite was the South Korean bid, but I am glad that Russia will host the Olympics.

Nothing like the underdog taking the cake and eating it too.

About the Beijing Games: this will be the last games that CBC in Canada will be the rightsholder for as CTV has secured the rights to the next few games, including Whistler 2010. I am sure that the Canadian sj members will agree that it will be major shoes for CTV to fill as CBC's coverage has been top notch for the last many years (especially with CBC's focus on amateur sports).

Not to get too over the top on this, but I think next to the actual games (minus the cheesy TV stories, etc.), the announcement day is one of the more exciting ones in sports. Think about what it means for the host city and country, aside from the obvious angles. Think about the pride the people in this city and region have right about now.
