hate to admit it, 'cause i loved "butch/sundance," but it hasn't aged as well as "the sting." a bit short on dialogue and too long on horseback riding.

don't get me wrong, it's still a classic to me. but fwiw, "the sting" gets my nod. 8)

Rules in a knife fight? Not sure. But I believe there's a rule that you can't bring a knife to a gun fight. Not sure why.

I'm not old enough to be able to say for sure, but I would agree with this. I think "The Sting" has aged better -- and I love both of them. Can watch "Butch" all day long, though. They're both great.
