One of the great moments on the Internet was when some guy, I think it was for Salon, did a stat-based column on how overrated the Big Shot Bob thing is because his shooting percentage isn't any better than anybody else's, and how it's just dumb luck that he has ended up with so many highlight-reel moments.

The night after the column, he hit a three-pointer for the Spurs to beat the Pistons.

But no, not even close to HOF.

Hell, Horry wasn't even a starter for about half his career. I'd be curious if he was ever even the second-best player on any of the teams he was on.

I'd be surprised if he was ever an all-star.

On basketballreference, Horry's most similar players career-wise were Joe Smith, Eddie Johnson (the non-druggie version), Juwan Howard, Kurt Thomas, Clarence Witherspoon, Armen Gilliam, Antonio Davis, Dave DeBusschere, Antonio McDyess and Maurice Lucas.

It certainly wasn't "dumb luck", he did knock down the ones that counted the most. BUT Horry absolutely is one of the most overrated players in history. He was the "right place right time" king--yeah, he was on 7 championship teams--but only started on two, and was like the 9th man off the bench for the last couple. Never made an all star team, never was a top tier player, and couldn't guard a lamppost in the latter years of his career. His name shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as the words Hall of Fame.

If clutch were allowed to exist, we'd be allowed to say he has a gift for the clutch.

Yeah, I got that. I wasn't trying to argue with you, just sorta felt like expanding on how overrated he is. If I left part of your post out, it's only because that wasn't the part that prompted my response.
