My first paper's office was used in several McDonald's commercials. I sat off-set and watched them. I don't know his name, but one of the actors was a comedic black guy who has been in about a thousand shows.
"The Ring" has a newspaper scene filmed at the OCR office. It was amazing work by the crew that there was no disruption at all. They filmed it overnight Saturday to Sunday. Once we all cleared out Saturday night, they came in to the area they were using, moved a few things around and repainted a wall to the color they wanted. They filmed it, put everything back and repainted the wall the original color. Done by Sunday morning.
The entertainment editor wrote a sappy, ridiculous column about Naomi Watts sitting in his chair and using his desk. He lamented not getting to meet her. Then, I remember that after spending the entire night filming that scene, Watts was at the Academy Awards that Sunday afternoon presenting an award. I guess certain aspects of acting are tough jobs.
The Herald Examiner building in downtown L.A. was used in a lot of movies because it was a ****hole, which people expect newspaper buildings to be.
