Um, what?

#Colts fans, let's hope my info is wrong. Don't like being wrong, but this time... I'm hoping #NFL #Manning

Hearing my fave, #18 Peyton Manning will not return to #NFL. Wow. #Colts

"As first reported by former sex-tape star Rob Lowe and confirmed by ESPN's Chris Mortsensen and TNT's David Aldridge, Peyton Manning will retire as quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts."

We have learned that Peyton Manning will retire.

In other news, Cam Newton will also retire...after he's done playing, just like Peyton Manning!

That is, LIT-er-al-ly, the worst tweet, I have seen, in my life.

The deliciousness of Rob Lowe getting this scoop, and what that says about the state of media today, really makes me want to believe this is true. Sorry, Bob.

I'm not buying it until I hear it from #charliesheen. WINNING!!

I know. I just figured you'd be somewhat bummed if Manning really did retire. I'm not rooting either way, but I am rooting for a ROB LOWE!!!! tweet to be the biggest scoop of the NFL off-season.

As a Colts fanboi looser, I've had time to consider the possibility all this blessedly awful season. Certainly, knowing that Andrew Luck is around the corner takes the sting out of an injury-induced Manning retirement. But even if Luck wasn't coming, every indication from Manning himself has been that his healing -- at least enough to play in the NFL again -- might not happen. It's hard to imagine Manning not coming back, but medically it seems like a long shot.

I won't believe this news until two more members of the "About Last Night" cast confirm it.

I'd prefer to hear this from Outsiders... C. Thomas Howell just confirmed it. Still waiting on Ralph Macchio. :D

Rob Lowe has quite a media career going for himself -- in addition to the sex tapes and now this tweet, he also was at the center of the hellfire controversy surrounding the Santa Barbara News-Press. It was the zoning fight between him and his neighbor, and Lowe's resulting complaint to the publisher that the paper printed his address, that led to the mass firings and resignations and the revelation that the publisher was a crazy loon.

Amusing Bob Kravitz tweet:

The scotch may start flowing early tonight. Seriously. I'm chasing a rumor that was started by @roblowe? Not dismissing anything, though.

One of the stories notes that Lowe is close with Irsay.

Not that that means anything, but I doubt he made it up.

Well, it wouldn't be the first time Kravitz' paper got its ass kicked on a HOF QB retiring.

Rob Lowe is the first account Jim Irsay followed on Twitter when he joined.

This is actually starting to make some sense because I hear the Colts are about to hire a new coach from within the state.

I just tweeted that Katy Perry is reporting that Andrew Luck is hanging it up. That's what I heard at least.

I've been trying to get Ally Sheedy or Andrew McCarthy (who actually is an award-winning travel writer) to confirm it. I'll now try the rest of the "St. Elmo's Fire" cast.
