Beware the ides of March if you're in Bay Area sports journalism. Scott Ostler is retiring after 32 years with the SF Chronicle (and before that, the LA Times and, I believe, the National Sports Daily).

Of course it's a gifted link.

EDIT: Yes, the link works.

Cripes, another legend. Loved his stuff as I was growing up devouring the L.A. Times every morning. So many great writers in the 1980s and 1990s. Damn, what a sports section.

As Jim Healy aptly called it: The World Champion.

That was fantastic. He made me--a kid from a small town in the northeast--laugh my ass off every single day in The National during my junior and senior year of high school. I wish I could have experienced those days in the business.

They come in threes. :)

Being a National alum deserves mad props. The only time I ever saw a copy on a news rack was in the Cincinnati airport. I regretted not springing for a copy, but my connection was departing in 5 seconds so I had to do an O.J. across Boone County.

I got it every single day in HS. I wish I saved them all. I do still have the essentials...the first and last editions plus the edition from the morning after Hank Gathers died.
