College baseball just got screwed in the timing of everything.
TDAP was designed to be a good ballpark for college baseball.
Then they redid the bats (long overdue)
And for whatever reason, the design and direction of the park, the wind is always blowing in.
Just a bad set of circumstances.
They are changing to a flat-seam baseball for 2015. Will be harder for pitchers to snap off curveballs and the ball flies about 20 feet farther when hit similarly. Hopefully, that helps.

Home plate at TDA faces in almost the opposite direction than it did at Rosenblatt, where the wind usually blew out.

Plus, Rosenblatt sat on top of a bluff outside of downtown so there was nothing to knock the wind down when it did blow out. That's a big reason why it was such a rocket range and TDA isn't.

It's been amazing that Irvine got as far as it did without being able to hit. They never hit the ball hard. But I watched them score 8 against Oregon State with only a couple of hard-hit balls.

I fully admit that I'm only asking because it's my ox being gored, but it seems unfair to me to punish higher-seeded teams that go 2-0 in the CWS by making them be the road team the rest of the way. Here's the rule:

The highest-seeded teams advancing from super-regional tournaments shall be the home teams for the first-round contests. In the event of a match-up between equally seeded teams, a coin flip will determine the home team. In subsequent games, the home team shall be determined according to the following formula:

The institution that has been the home team the fewer number of times shall be designated the home team.
If the two teams are equal in this respect but unequal in the number of times they were the visitor, then the team that has been the visitor more often will be designated the home team.

If the two teams are equal in the number of times that they have been home and visitor, the games committee or the NCAA game representative shall observe the following procedures in the order stated:

--If the two teams have met previously in that particular tournament, the visitor in the previous game shall be the home team in the game in question.
--The team that was visitor in its preceding game shall be the home team, unless both teams were visitors in their preceding games.
--If the above procedures do not resolve the matter, the home team shall be determined by coin toss. The coin toss will be held on the field immediately after the game that caused the situation to develop and both coaches are requested to be in attendance.

In this case, it's Ole Miss (2-1 in the CWS) that gets to be the home team the rest of the way, with UVA (2-0) the road team. That's penalizing UVA pretty significantly for winning two in a row.

I didn't see the appeal. If there was any time delay in the pitcher making the throw to first (meaning, he did the old engage the rubber, step off and throw to first), then the pitcher gets the only assist. If the appeal occurred as part of the play and play never became "relaxed" then all the fielders involved would get assists.

I agree. Same thing in the regionals, where the higher seed is sometimes the road team. The high seed should always be the home team (or road, if for some reason that's what it prefers). They earned it. In the case of equal seeds meeting, then flip a coin.
