RIP Vic Damone

Sports Journalists Forum – Media, Newsroom & Reporting Talk

Help Support Sports Journalists Forum:

"This is gonna be just like last summer. You fell in love with that girl at the Fotomat, you bought forty dollars worth of ****in' film, and you never even talked to her. You don't even own a camera."

-- A line I have used repeatedly on my son, who no longer talks to me about girls he may be interested in.

More like your son is thinking, "what the **** is a Fotomat?"

Pop culture note - Damone turned down the lounge singer role in The Godfather out of concern it would upset Sinatra and his buddies.

2:36-3:17, from last year's Providence Newspaper Guild Follies: we pilched Vic's version of "The Street Where I Live" for a song about a state rep who was forced out of his re-election bid over, well, legal residence issues. (That is a white guy named James Brown playing him; he's known around R.I. as The Hardest Working Linc Chafee Impersonator in Show Business.)

BTW: We're staging our final show, after 44 years (longer than SNL!) on Feb. 23 at the Venus deMilo in Swansea, Mass. Tickets are going fast.
