Always loved this song, and Bob Seger's live version, too.

NUTBUSH 1973

NUTBUSH 2009

She was in this phase of her career, part in parcel with the formative years of MTV, when I first started listening to her.

Just her career from the 80s comeback on was enough to make her a star. You go back into the history - damn. Aretha Franklin was a bigger legend and probably Diana Ross as well. But after that, I don’t know if there was a bigger female r&b/pop crossover star.

Damn. I love Tina Turner music.

I’m a huge fan of the transition from blues to rock and roll, and she was a huge part of that. Although a scumbag, Ike was a big part of that, and I loved seeing their performances. I never pass an Ike and Tina song.

RIP to one of the greats. She endured terrible abuse from Ike...and then had one of the most remarkable comebacks in American popular music. "Private Dancer" is just a heartbreaking song that she makes so memorable.

Also fun as Auntie Entity in Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome in which she had a couple of catchy tunes on the soundtrack.

No one, BUT NO ONE, did deep southern R&B/rock/funk/soul like Tina Turner did in her Ike & Tina days, especially in the early 70s. They are totally unique in their sound and what a sound it was.

Yes, it was conceived in terrible circumstances, but it doesn’t lessen the art or Tina’s contribution to it.

She doesn’t get anywhere near enough love as a songwriter, because chances are, it it wasn’t a cover? Tina likely wrote it. “Nutbush City Limits” is best-known and it’s brilliant, but that’s G-rated compared to some her other tunes from the period. She went down some dark alleys in terms of her songwriting POV. Go check out “Kay Got Laid (Joe Got Paid)” for just one example. “Up In Heah” is a fantastic temptation song which turns gospel on its head.

My age group got on-board with her 80s comeback and we were fortunate to do so. As mentioned, that era alone makes her one of the greats.

She was the greatest female R&B/rock vocalist of all-time. RIP to a giant.

Here’s one I love. Both versions of this song cut. Part 1 is deep early 70s down south funk Part 2 rocks, a great example of their style. Allegedly, T Rex’s Marc Bolan plays the brilliant guitar on this, as he allegedly does on “Nutbush” too.

RIP Queen. You were the best.

This song will always give me chills.

I associate this to being at Lambeau for the Packers XXXI celebration… team walking onto the field with the Lombardi trophy, fireworks going off and “The Best” blasting on the sound system in sub-zero temps.

A memory I’ll always hold dear.
