I was never a huge fan, but I always suspected his shtick of being the over-the-top, look-at-me character came from some deep-seated issues. Sadness, unfortunately, is often the inspiration of the best comedians out there.

If he was broke, broke is being defined rather loosely. He died at his home in Tiburon. The most broke person in Tiburon is insanely wealthy.

RIP. This really sucks. Such an enormous talent.

I pulled a muscle laughing so hard. Was at the Comedy Shoppe in Hollywood maybe 30 years ago. Sam Kinison, then a relative unknown, was performing. Robin Williams was in the audience, came up on stage and they brought down the house.
RIP to a great entertainer.
