I don't remember my dad, who lost his brother in WWII, having any huge problems with Hogan's Heroes. I don't think my grandparents particularly watched it, but I dunno. They weren't really big into prime time sitcoms.

Actually my grandparents didn't even have a tv in the living room -- that was full of books and an old time stereo system. The tv -- a 15" semi portable BW set -- was back in the "guest bedroom."

Now my "rich" grandma on my mom's side, she did indeed have tv in the living room. You bet she did. A 27" color console set. We went to her house to watch "Batman."

Every show on this thread was rewatched in syndication. It never occurred to me it was once upon a time a part of the Big Three networks' primetime* programming. My mother hipped me to that when I was nine. ("You mean they didn't make black and white shows that way on purpose?!?!?!") Being a wee thing, I was educated early on about the virtues of shoe phones and flip-top communicators. (Thanks Dad! Also, thanks for letting me sit with you while we watched Bobby Orr take flight on the little black and white TV in the kitchen.)

Shreveport and Lubbock affiliates and UHF stations kept the love and electric babysitting going with Father Knows Best, Leave It To Beaver, Gilligan's Island, Bewitched, F Troop, Bonanza, and my favorites, The Big Valley, Star Trek, Get Smart, The Man From Uncle, The Avengers, and Daktari.


*Not even a thing yet. Was it Fred Silverman who came up with that?

Would it blow your mind to know The Flintstones, The Jetsons and Jonny Quest were all prime time TV shows, along with Top Cat, The Alvin Show and Mr. Magoo?

@maumann It would have a while back. The first prime-time Hannah -Barbera cartoon I saw was "Where's Huddles?"

This is what happens when you come from a sports- and science-mad family. (I can imagine this one caused my mother to have a quiet hissy fit until the real games came on.)

Thanks to YouTube, I discovered the 1960s NBC series "Daniel Boone" starring Fess Parker. I only include it on this thread as a contemporary of "Hogan's Heroes." Never got syndicated to my knowledge, so I missed it the first go-round.

I had not thought of Top Cat in probably 50 or more years. Then it comes up on this thread, and now I can't get the theme song out of my head.

"Lancer" is a very underrated Western. Andrew Duggan and a pre-accident James Stacy. Lancer even made a cameo in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
