Goonies is underrated, and Lethal Weapon is an all time in the buddy cop genre. The Rewatchables podcast did a good job on it.

Was in my youth, and still am, an unabashed fan of Donner's "Superman: The Movie". It's certainly the primary reason for the proliferation of the superhero movie in this day and age, and it's not without flaws of its own, but watching Christopher Reeve transform from Clark Kent to Superman--making the two characters believably distinct in a way that nobody else has quite matched to this day--and rescue Margot Kidder's Lois Lane from a falling helicopter is still (at least to me) movie magic at its very finest.

Lethal Weapon 2 is the best of the bunch, IMO.
PATSY KENSIT!!!

There was a long gap between Superman and the Superhero Movie Era. Others would argue that the ‘90s Batman movies were more responsible, but some of them were atrocious to the point that we all shudder to think of them.

I would argue that the era of the comic book movie was launched with X-Men in 2000, which saw Richard Donner receive an executive producer’s credit (his wife Lauren Shuler Donner was producer of that movie).

Had no idea he directed Conspiracy Theory, which I loved in real time (in retrospect, like with so much of looney tune Mel's movies, ehhh). Was also apparently in talks to do a fifth Lethal Weapon.

True. But I'll still contend that in some form or fashion much of it can be traced back to S:TM. I saw today that Kevin Feige attributes his career (and by extension the existence of the Marvel Cinematic Universe) to Superman and thanks Richard and Lauren in a heartfelt message he posted just today:

Christopher Nolan and Patty Jenkins have mentioned they modeled their respective films after the 1978 Superman...quite an influence it's had over the decades.

Thanks to Richard Donner, I hope to one day fly counter clockwise around planet Earth like Superman did. I've been working on my flying endurance.
