Covered the game in, 1989 maybe, when his 16 seed team came close to knocking off No. 1 seed Georgetown.

Awesome.

I feel like upsets have become relatively commonplace.

If they had won that -- and some argue that Mourning should have been called for a foul on the last shot -- it truly would have been the biggest tournament upset ever. That kind of thing didn't ever happen then.

I can still see Carril in my head, on the sideline during that game with his hair sticking out in every direction.

RIP

One of my greatest gambling moments. I was a junior at Cornell and was living with a bunch of guys on the hoops team and watched a ton of film with them. I made an absolute killing that year betting Ivy League hoops and was blown away by how good Princeton was. So I bet a hefty party of my annual winnings on the spread and $50 on Princeton to win at something like +1600. At halftime, the runner (a guy who worked at a sneaker store with some friends) called me at a friend’s house in a panic. Turns out, he didn’t call my ML bet in to the bookie because he figured it was an easy $50 and didn’t have the cash to pay me off if Princeton won. So paid me off at I think $150 and I ended up winning the spread bet and the cash in on the ML bet.

That was the game where Vitale said he would come on the air dressed like a cheerleader if Princeton won.
