RIP Produce Pete

I was scared for Steve Carell for a second…

RIP Pete Napolitano. He carved out a unique legacy.

First Uncle Floyd, now Produce Pete. Tough week for former New York area TV personalities. Storm Field ought to stay on his toes.

Back in the day in the Bay Area (and he was blasted elsewhere too), Joe Carcione was THE Green Grocer. Loved the way he said vege-TAHbles.

He was the first guy I thought of when I opened this thread. In the early '80s, he had a regular segment on KCBS's daily newscast in LA. He usually did remotes, but sometimes would do it right there in the studio, and it was kind of funny to see the news anchors taking a few bites of his produce when he was showing them off. He looked exactly like the kind of guy you would encounter at a produce stand haggling with you over those tomatoes or oranges.

It's amusing to me now that so many cities had these people (Joe Carcione, who was aired in Pittsburgh. Mr. Food, who was also aired in Pittsburgh) and we thought that they were uniquely ours, only to find out that they were being shown in a bunch of different markets.

Not sure if it was the same guy or someone else working the gimmick, but I think I remember a Green Grocer segment in Philadelphia as well.

For me Green Grocer was on channel 6 out of Philly, wasn't sure if he was local or not. Mr. Food was on the Wilkes Barre CBS station, i knew he was syndicated because it was a bare bones station.

Mrs. W didn’t like my joke that they will know when it’s time to bury Produce Pete when his casket is heavy in the hand.
