Paddy Moloney, Irish folk music legend and founder of The Chieftains, has died at 83

This music is what my parents had playing in the background every weekend. The Chieftains, the Dubliners, whatever the Irish music program played. Never have been a huge fan, but it’s also a soundtrack to part of my life. RIP.

A great musician and fine fellow I was lucky enough to meet once upon a time. May his memory make hearts glad.

The Chieftains inspired so many Celtic musicians on both sides of the Atlantic. They revitalized traditional Irish music and really kicked off the whole contemporary Celtic sound. Everybody from Great Big Sea to the Dropkick Murphys to Seven Nations owes a bit of their success to the Chieftains.

Plus, it gives me a chance to post my favorite Glass Tiger song. To you, Paddy.
