RIP Name Changes (this means you too flaghokie)

Sports Journalists Forum – Media, Newsroom & Reporting Talk

I think Tuesday is one of the most important dates in SportsJournalists.com history. Along with the day Don Johnson showed up and got us a new site. And any of the stuff that happened prior to April 2006, when I joined.

I kinda like Football_Tab. But not for all 12 months.

So you'd be changing back by then because you're wrapping your tab up any minute now, right?

So basically, you're stuck with whatever name you have Tuesday forever? That sucks for people like me, because if this site is still around in a few years and my show is not, the joke will be lost.

FWIW, Holly, you can stay just the same. I loved me some Audrey. Unfortunately I was just born 30 years too late.

(I liked the movie, but I hated that mid-90s song.)

I didn't mind the song, for what it was.

As for the name, I'm pissed Asian dong is going to keep me from having this name any longer than I have. I rather like it, and I think it can be fitting depending on my mood.

But I do hate the fact that the spammers have won.

The name change deal has nothing to do with the spammers. It has everything to do with the evolution of the SMF software. We are now running the latest, greatest version of the software and it is impossible to tell when someone has changed their moniker now. As a result, it has become too difficult to track who is who. So I made the decision to disallow name changes starting Tuesday night.

And it's a good choice.

Thanks for your concern, Football_Tab/Bat. Cosmo it is for good.

So I guess you could say that the cat -- reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrr -- is out of the bag?

Thank you, Webby, maybe now I can keep track of who everybody is. I know who I am, and I have never changed my user name, unlike most of the rest of you.

I only changed my name because the old one just doesn't fit at all any more. I'm nowhere near flag now, and because I sometimes cover the Hokies, it seems to be bad form to tout that as part of my username.
