He never recovered from pneumonia. Sad day for Pittsburgh.

Damn...I knew this day might not be far off, but it's still very sad.

Cope was known as a homer with a loud, hyperactive style and voice that made you wonder how he ever made it out of print journalism, but I've also heard that he was a heck of a reporter before getting the job with the Steelers (before my time, so I'll have to take the word of others on this). I know some people couldn't stand to listen to him, but he was a great character and entertainer who knew exactly what his audience wanted and gave it to them.

A true giant of broadcasting and a Pittsburgh treasure. I'll pour one down in his memory. His style will be sorely missed.

That's the one thing I hope doesn't get forgotten about him.
He was one hell of a writer.

people forget that Myron was a successful print journalist before he started focusing on the color commentary for the Steelers, and his radio talk show "Myron Cope - oooooooon sports" Again, he will truly be missed by the NFL

That story is collected on page 466 of "Sports Illustrated, Fifty Years of Great Writing". He was a very fine writer.

I will drink a shot and beer in his honor when I get home.

He was a joy to be around. When sportswriters got around to dipping into the memory bank and telling stories, few could top Myron.

If I had an Iron City in the frig, yes, I'd pop it open and drink to Myron.
