That's sad. He definitely orbited in a plane above me but he was very good in an era where there was less low-hanging fruit to satirize. I'll put it at that.

Had been of the scene for quite a while, but a prominent fixture on PBS for decades. RIP.

Mark Russell was a humorist of the old school.

Like Buchwald, he respected - and believed in - the institutions he mocked.

His artistic burden was to follow Tom Lehrer, who did everything better, more sharply and more musically.

Still, in the last great age of the old Washington, he was pretty funny.

To his rest, and may his memory be a blessing.

I liked Russell's Washington a lot more than the one today.

I wonder why that is.
