RIP Gil de Ferran (2003 Indy 500 winner)

Was racing at a private track in south Florida with his son today. Pulled over and said he wasn't feeling well, went into cardiac arrest and died. Posted in the motorsports thread but perhaps famous enough for the bottom of A1.

Damn, that's sad. He had a lot of racing years left and looks like a great family. RIP.

Damn. Very jarring to lose a 21st-century 500 winner. The only other one of course is Dan Wheldon.

Stunned when I heard this. Still numb. A true gentleman racer, and frighteningly fast. Went around California Speedway in 241-plus for a record that still stands.
