RIP Dodge Viper

If anyone else here is a fan of Top Gear, here's a review of an early 1990s Viper by a very early 1990s version of Jeremy Clarkson. It's worth it for the hair alone. Looks like he walked out of the England squad from the 1990 World Cup.

A friend of mine was a top-notch mechanic for Dodge and was selected for Viper training. He eventually became the only factory authorized Viper mechanic on the West Coast. If you bought one, it was stipulated in the contract that all the maintenance and repairs had to be done by my friend. So he got to meet all the rock stars and hockey players. He was on the crew for all of the races that Viper eventually dominated. It was a great time in his life.

Doctor here in town had one. 92 RT/10.
Let his daughter's boyfriend take it to prom.
He takes it to prom, then ends up putting it in a corn field later that night.

I forget where I heard this, but the Viper is (was?) the automotive embodiment of the phrase, "What are you, a *****?"

not into the supercar thing
i can have just as much fun in a $35000 Mustang GT, and am not constantly worried about people hitting me.
that's what my next car will be after jr chef graduates next year.

Only sports car I ever owned was a Toyota Supra. Sweet car, but got real tired of $200 performance tires that melted like butter after 20,000 miles pretty quickly.

I don't know if it's still there, but a Dodge dealership in Evanville, Ind., used to have a Viper perched at the top of a pole outside its parking lot. It most surely was just a body with tires, but it looked pretty cool.

Sad to hear, though I had thought they were out of production already. Dodge is putting a lot more promotional effort behind the souped-up Challengers like the Hellcat and Demon.

I drive a V-6 Accord Coupe with a 6 speed manual transmission. Soon t be a collectors item

Mine is an automatic, never learned or cared to learn to drive a stick. I used to have an 03 Infinity G35 coupe. My V6 Accord has a few less horsepower and is less stylish but still has leather, moon roof etc and it has way more headroom, rides smoother and runs on regular gas.

In a about 34 years of owning cars about 20 years of them have been stick. I enjoy it generally. I think it makes me a better driver, especially in snow. I hate it in heavy traffic and going in reverse. When I met my wife we were both driving sticks and listening to WHFS. I knew she was a keeper based on those 2 facts.

First car: 76 Toyota Celica
