Damn!

He conjured up some dark stuff....Blue Velvet's lack of surrealism made it all the more terrifying.

The first season of Twin Peaks is a true classic....not just classic tv.

Blue Velvet was the first Lynch movie I saw.

I loved him in the 3-part Louie episode when CK was picked to audition for Letterman's spot ... some of the best American TV of all time.

I remember watching Eraserhead in a cinema class in college.

I also got a kick out of the end of Wild at Heart after a gang beats Nicolas Cage within an inch of his life.

Tattoos don't really interest me, but if I was to ever get one "fix your hearts or die" goes hard enough that I'd consider it. RIP to a man dedicated to remaining authentically weird in an industry feverishly being pushed into the broadest, blandest acceptability.

I did love the weirdness of his stuff. He was the rare "arteur" who could make something that was both commercial and kind of a cult hit. I wouldn't say he exactly landed "Twin Peaks," but that first season was some of the most amazing and creative stuff ever aired on a broadcast network. Funny, dark, interesting. It really stayed with you.

His stuff was always weird, but it never felt like he was reaching for it or purposely trying to shock, like a John Waters or Cronenberg can at times. There was always a truth and emotional nature to his work.
