Annual participant in the Indianapolis 500 and a titan in USAC racing. Died from injuries sustained in a midget car race this weekend.

Huge loss for auto racing. He was a true racer's racer. Hours after running the Indy 500, he raced at a nearby short track. He was the next A.J. Foyt, the next Tony Stewart.

He was a great kid. Quiet, humble, like murphyc said, a true racer's racer. He wasn't going to win an Indy 500, but having him in the event the last two years harkened to a time when racers from all genres would take on the biggest race in the world. It was terrific to have him.

Damn. I've been away from the news this week and am just now catching up.

I always rooted for Clauson in the 500. His story was old-school racing to me. I haven't been to a sprint or midget race in years, so never saw him in his element, but always pulled for him when he jumped in the IndyCars. Terrible news.
