This is what happens when you marry in your 30s.

We will buy Japanese cars probably the rest of the way. The only reason I bought the F150 is because Honda does not make a decent truck.

The Ridgeline is a good truck.

I bought a 2008 Nissan Sentra, my first foreign car, in August. I love it. I bought it about 12 hours after my fiancee bought a 2009 Nissan Versa. We'll drive these as far as they can go.

My embarrassing list of cars beforehand:

I'll just say I was in a hurry to buy non-American.

The only reason I bought the F150 is because Honda does not make a decent truck.

Toyota, however, makes plenty of good trucks.

I have one now: a '99 Tacoma. It's up to 139K miles, and finally paid off last May. Just had to replace the battery and alternator, but other than a couple flat tires and replacing the brakes three years ago, I haven't had to do anything else to it. I'll probably drive it until it dies.

First car I had was a '94 Nissan Sentra, which my dad bought as a commute-to-work car and then passed on to me at 16 when he upgraded. Drove that bad boy to 174K before it died in 2003 -- on the freeway at 85 mph; engine block fell out and I had to swerve six lanes to the shoulder and wait for a tow. Fun times.

Spent today pricing slightly used Honda Civics and Accords. I will almost certainly buy one of them as my second car, and the first one that's really mine. I figure I can drive it until I'm well into my 30s. The best part is that I will likely have it paid off either right away or within 6 months.

My second Toyota truck, and third Toyota since 1982. Before that, a VW Golf and Fiat 128 four-door.

My cars: '63 Impala, '70 Camaro, '78 Camaro, '88 Blazer (all Chevys). Then 2000 Ford Explorer. The Blazer went past 200,000 miles. The Explorer will hit 150,000 in a month or so.
Wife: Had an '83 Honda when I met her, got her a '91 Honda new when she was pregnant with our daughter. She had that Honda until about 2006 when she got a '97 Nissan Maxima.
Daughter: A few weeks ago, she got a 2001 VW Beetle with 76,000. Got it for $4,500. Pretty good deal. They Blue Book for $8,000 to $11,000.

And when I totaled a car a few months ago, we went right back to Honda.

Until somebody builds a car better than a Honda, that's what I'm driving (absolutely love my '08 Pilot). I like the idea of buying American, but if I'm spending that kind of money, and with the potential long-term costs of making a bad decision, you have to buy the best product.

The F150 and the Silverado are just as bulletproof as the Toyota and Nissan trucks per Consumer Reports, but those foreign trucks are very nice.

My F150 is just loaded, though. Carmax's price when I bought it in 2005 (about 50% of its sale price in 2003) was too good to pass up.

There are very few trucks that are a POS. I don't want to offend any one that has one of the brands, but the Carmax guy would not even let me go near them even though he had about seven of them on the lot and only three Fords.

My '98 Ford Explorer just rolled past 200,000 miles last weekend, 10 years and 8 months after I bought it new. No major work done to it in all those years. I get the oil changed regularly and have the engine tuned every 50,000 miles or so.

That said, the wife drives a Honday Odyssey, two of my first three cars were Hondas ('89 Civic and '91 Prelude) and I'll probably get a Honda CRV or Pilot when the Explorer dies.

My wife is a Dodge girl and dreams of the day she can get an Avenger. She likes the Caliber, but is absolutely in love with the Avenger. When she has her Avenger and I have my Nitro...that'll be a good day.

Should that have been in the blue font? All three of those vehicles are atrociously bad.
