NCAA Week 9 College Football: Bill Snyder's Messy Diaper

Florida v. Georgia; 330, CBS (They should go back to calling this game, "The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party).......most attendees to see a game in Jacksonville all year long.

Texas Tech @ Kansas State; 330, FOX (Guns up, *******)

Colorado @ Oregon; 300, P12N (see GT V. Cumberland)

Notre Dame @ Oklahoma; 800, Uncle Burnt/Herbie calling the Catholics and the Cowboys. Eureka.

As if Southern Miss being 0-7 wasn't bad enough, the mother of starting quarterback Anthony Alford was arrested during the game on Saturday:

I know it's hard to sit there and listen to people berate your kid, but Alford's mother has a history of this sort of stuff. She was escorted from a baseball playoff game last spring for COMING ONTO THE FIELD to argue with the umpire after Anthony was ejected for arguing balls and strikes.

I dealt with Anthony a bit when he was in high school, and he's a good kid by all accounts. But his mother has a little bit of the Ann Iverson/Gloria James entitlement craziness to her.

The most perplexing game this weekend is Mississippi at Arkansas (well, in Little Rock). Mississippi unquestionably has been the better team this year, but Arkansas seems to be heading in the right direction and certainly has a more talented roster. Arkansas is favored by five.

I anticipate an Alabama-Michigan level letdown for viewers of the Notre Dame-Oklahoma game. Biggest game Notre Dame has played since probably Florida State in 2002, and Brian Kelly, in three years, has been unable to develop a passable starting quarterback to run the offense. It catches up to him on Saturday. Big-time.

I really think OU is going to beat the **** out of Notre Dame.

And, Tech absolutely could beat K-State. Doege threw three INT, all incredibly costly, a year ago against K-State. One was a pick 6 and two were in the fourth quarter. He also threw three when the Red Raiders got their **** pushed in by OU a couple weeks ago. He's obviously capable, though. K-State's considerably better than it was a year ago, of course. Plus, the team seems to take its identity from Klein, who's a clone of Snyder when it comes to living and breathing boring quotes and the virtues of hard work, which lessens the chance of the team getting caught up in its success.

I really think it would take a lopsided day of turnovers or kick/punt returns for K-State to lose at home to Tech, but that's certainly possible.

My feeling is Kansas State goes 11-1, wins the Big 12 and wins the Fiesta Bowl, and Collin Klein wins the Heisman Trophy. That would be the best season in school history. Bill Snyder could retire a king.

Duke +27.5. I can't even remember who Duke is playing. But 27.5 is too much.
NC State +7.5 at UNC. No reason.
Notre Dame +10.5 at Oklahoma. Oklahoma might win, but it'll be close.
Oregon State -4.5 at Washington. Tricky spot for Oregon State.
Kansas State -7 vs. Texas Tech. If this is at Tech, I'd think twice. But not at home.
TCU +7 at Okie State. Are there any healthy QBs left at Okie State?

Notre Dame will have trouble with Oklahoma's speed. If they can keep the game between the tackles and win the turnover battle, maybe they have a chance. Otherwise, like **** said, it could be Alabama-Michigan II.

Be curious to see if Mississippi State can hang with Alabama.

- Oregon will move up, long as they beat USC (twice) , Stanford and Oregon State. An unbeaten season with that resume assures them of a national title game slot.

- Unlike 2005 and 2006, I don't see a two-loss Notre Dame in a BCS bowl. They have to finish among the top eight, and the decisive losses to come - Oklahoma, then USC down the road - will relegate the Irish.

- Should Notre Dame sneak their way in, the only redeeming value would be if they were to face Cincinnati, just so Coach Kelly's old team could exact some revenge.

Be curious to see if Mississippi State can hang with Alabama.

The Bulldogs always play Alabama tough when they've got any talent at all, but MSU's 7-0 record this year is about as flimsy as you can get.

Their 7 wins are over Tennessee, Auburn and Kentucky (which are a combined 0-14 in the SEC), three Sun Belt teams (Troy, South Alabama and Middle Tennessee) and Jackson State.

Since upsetting Stanford, Washington has disappeared (see Oregon, Arizona games). Then again, Oregon State has been looking kinda ugly in recent wins (see WAZZU, Utah games).

People expecting OU to roll over Notre Dame are obviously forgetting Landry Jones ****s the bed in anything even resembling a big game. OU could still win because Notre Dame may not score on offense. But it'll be close.

Unless there are some uncharacteristic turnovers, KState will dumptruck Texas Tech. TTech will likely lose at least three and possibly four of its remaining games.

I think the only way KState loses a game on its remaining schedule is if Klein gets hurt.

As for Okie State, I think the freshman is healthy enough to reclaim his starting spot. I also think they cover at home.

That's really not how college football works. It's not the NFL. Not-great teams lose to worse teams all the time. Kansas State plays Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Texas at home and at Baylor and TCU. Those teams are all capable of upsets.
