Probably been on that thread. Love me some Raspberries.

I was THRILLED when Eric Carmen followed me on Twitter and complimented me on a tweet I made about the Raspberries.

Turns out, he's basically a loon and I have him muted these days, but I'm still pretty thrilled about it.
He really is, from the sounds of that thread. Music's king of conspiracy theories.

As everyone here knows, my musical tastes lean almost entirely towards mainstream and I've been skewered endlessly for it. All in good fun. And I like most of Kiss' hits. But their body of work is eminently disposable pop produced by a pair of whores who spent the first 25 years of their careers licking their fingers and trying to adjust to the direction of the wind. Disco? Concept records? No more makeup? Hair metal? Guns n' Roses-like sleaze rock? Grunge? Makeup again? LOOK AT US WE'RE PRESENT AND CURRENT! (Credit to them for "Revenge," which came out just as Nirvana changed the world and actually sounded different from all the other records coming out from hair metal bands in 1992)

The last 25 years have been an unabashed cash grab that's endlessly mocked the fans they insist they love so much. With Ace & Peter squeezed out, it's been a tribute band with backing tracks for the last God knows how many tours. Why should anyone defend Kiss' legacy when Gene & Paul think so little of it? And once the 72nd "farewell" tour ends, they'll start up The Kiss Experience (four randos in the outfits) authorized by Gene & Paul, or some ****. Damn, I should visit those boards and pull some Bubbler-like ****!
Favorite factoid about KISS -- not sure where I read this, probably in some Klosterman book:

When the boys thought they were hot enough to put out four lame-ass solo albums at one time in 1978 or so, Ace's record sold the most copies (probably because of "New York Groove" being on it). Apparently Gene was so pissed that, over the years, he and his flunkies kept buying copies of the Gene solo KISS record until it officially had sold the most.

That's an anecdote -- true or not -- that needs to be included in Simmons' obituary, it's so on the money.

I love that. Hilarious.

I was just Googling Gene Simmons and Eddie Van Halen to make fun of Simmons the so-called financial genius "discovering" but not signing the band. He insists it was everyone around him who told him not to pursue it and that he ripped up the contract Van Halen signed with him so that the band could more easily pursue a new deal. Gene Simmons? Modest? And being a nice guy? In this economy?

Gene Simmons recalls producing early Van Halen demos — and why he tore up their contract: 'They owe me nothing'

Even if that's true--and there's no better people to lie about than Van Halen, since Michael Anthony is too nice a guy to call out anyone's bull****, nobody listens to DLR b/c he's insane and Alex is the biggest recluse in the rock world--the rest of his non-Kiss moves weren't all that great either. His big signing on Simmons Records--an imprint of RCA Records, considered a cool record label by absolutely no one in the late '80s--was House of Lords. Solid enough band for the time, but yikes.

If that story isn't true it should be.

Buddy of mine is a huge KISS fan and he swears Ace's solo album is the best album the band never made.

Back in the day, Conan O'Brien used to have a "Walker Texas Ranger" lever on his show which kicked in a random ridiculous clip from that show.

That game can be played with the Hoffman Music Forum. Go to the first page and post the most ridiculous thread title.

Right now? "The Great Importance Of Stone Temple Pilots".

You can't make this **** up!

Which member of KISS was the most mysterious?

As a dolt who spends time on some of the audio forums it gets pretty intense.

Which cables are best sonically always ends up with blood splatters on the walls.

Of no interest to no one I'll add Hoffman is the reason I'm hanging on to the 211 vacuum tubes I have that test as new in the hope one day of finding an amp for them.

I was just reading a thread where two guys were arguing about the remastering of an album.

Dude #1 insisted it was taken from inferior digital sources.

Dude #2 disagreed.

Dude #1 insisted.

Dude #2 owns the label and posted a photo of the master analog tapes used for the remaster.

Dude #1 disappeared.

I have a vacuum tube amp set up in my office from my client who sells the amps and speakers. Great sound and I like the retro vibe. PM me if you want the name of the system.

Sorry I’m not an audiophile, it uses tubes but not those.

Hey, no audiophile here, I just like music.

I've got tube and solid state systems. The 211s are an itch I want to scratch since I have some, and I was wondering if you were running those.

They run hot as the sun.
