So Take on Me came up on my playlist today and while it has never been my favorite 80's tune, it is probably the most memorable that immediately takes me back to the MTV channel because the video was so ground-breaking IMHO.

Which one takes you back to Downtown Julie Brown, Martha Quinn, Tabitha Soren (BTW she was in my wife's newborn group and wifey never invited her and Michael Lewis over!) and the rest of the crew?

This was the first music video I ever saw. It was 1983 (I think) and we were staying with some friends in Shreveport, La.

When I hear Blues Traveler, I'm reminded of that time I was on MTV.

They did a concert film of the 1996 HORDE Tour stop in Memphis. The boom camera over the crowd caught me and my buddies standing in a circle in a puff, puff, pass situation.

I remember racing home from school on Day One that it was on our cable system - my dad complaining that because of that crap music video channel, our cable rates were going up from like $22 a month to $24 or something. First video that came on was this, so it always had a soft spot in my heart ...

Not a video per se, but the amazing interstitials of Donal Logue as Jimmy the Cab Driver are so awesome.

He would drive around for hours and he would just improvise all the dialogue and they edited it down from there.

Freshman year, coming home from the school pep rally and seeing this for the first time blew my mind. Went to school and asked my friends had anyone else heard of Nirvana. Nada. Went to the handful of stores that sold music to see if they had this album. Nada.

About a week later, everyone was talking about Nirvana at my school.
