Sports Journalists Forum – Media, Newsroom & Reporting Talk

An event I look forward to every year, the arrival of my Baseball Prospectus from the UPS man is almost here. I tried the digital version a few years ago. It wasn’t the same.

Nerd alert.

I can indoctrinate a six-year-old with baseball nerdom for the first time, too! I’ve got a bit of a math whiz on my hands. He’s getting sent to the third grade classroom for math as a kindergartner, so I cannot wait to explain how the numbers get tabulated!

I have a fellow dork to watch games with. Exciting stuff.

Not sure if Scherzer can stay healthy, but he's still pretty damn good when he is. I've always enjoyed watching him pitch. Would be fun to see him put together one more solid season, if his body cooperates.

I'm surprised he got that much, though it's Scherzer so I shouldn't be surprised by anything. A great pitcher and competitor, but I'm not sure there's anything left.

Well, the Jays seem to be dying to spend money, but keep getting stiffed. Or maybe they're just the No. 1 agent stalking horse this year.

It's also one of those -- if we stink maybe we can at least flip him at the deadline for some lottery tickets

There are definitely worse ways to go about it.

The Mets got Luisangel Acuna for Scherzer. He played great in a very small sample size at the end of last season and is apparently part of the infield plan for 2025. Not sure he can approach how great his brother is, but who knows?

For those scoring at home.

And just because we're a journalism board sometimes, SF Chronicle and other Hearst papers tell Fisher to eff off, will use SAC designation in agate, ect., and even call them the Sacramento A's.

As a paper, did you ever use “The Allstate”
Sugar Bowl instead of just Sugar Bowl? I cut the advertising name every time in copy. We’re not required to be an advertising vehicle for sponsors; they get plenty of ball washing from TV people.

All of which is to say, **** the A’s.

How nice, there are actually some media with a backbone. Maybe the White House Press Corps should take a few notes.

Jack Flaherty reunites with the Tigers. Two years, $35M with an opt-out after one. Still only 29 even though it seems like he's been in the bigs forever.

Wondering if GM Scott Harris has one more big move (Bregman?) or if he'll stick with what he's got and patch up the other holes with cheap spring training castoffs.
