Joe Saunders, the only VaTech alum currently in the majors, wearing his Hokies cap on the mound tonight in Anaheim. Very touching.

Also drew a VT logo in the dirt behind the rubber and has a note on his spikes.

Not sure if you noticed but the Red Sox had the Virginia Tech logo on both their jerseys and hats tonight. It was done at the suggestion of Jason Varitek.

It would be nice if the players all donated those shirts and hats to be auctioned off to help the victims' families.

Of all the issues the Yankees have had the last three years, Rivera has always been the rock. Can't even quantify how many games he's probably won for NY by simply having filthy stuff that demoralizes the other team. Now, I imagine he'll be fine, but if he's not, if the tread on his tires really is running thin, this might be the year the Yanks miss the playoffs. They've been able to slam their way through the regular season with mediocre pitching because they've had the ultimate weapon to slam the door shut in the late innings. But when he finally isn't superhuman anymore -- and that day may not be here yet, but it is approaching -- it's going to hurt a lot more than losing any position player would.

I'm not saying anything anyone doesn't already know. But I'd be getting a little worried if I were Yankee fans. Just a little.

We New Englandahs are watching on NESN; blacked out on ESPN. I'd rather listen to Rem-Dog. Dude is my second-favorite behind Scully and Ross Porter (though I've been gone from LA 15 years ... is Porter still doing Dodger games?).

Songbird, the Dodgers dumped Porter 2-3 years ago when the Yankees decided not to bring Charley Steiner back to the booth to sit next to Herr Sterling and Fraulein Waldman. It's a damn shame too.

This Midwestinah were watching the Yankees and the Sawx while doing a birthday pub crawl for a friend. My prayahs were answerahed! I feel like talking like a Kennedy right now!

Mariano has not been good this season at all, but it is very early and he has had nearly a week off between appearances each time. I don't think it is the end of the line yet for Rivera, though he could be injured presently.

I agree across the board on your points. When Rivera is no longer good and turns into Borowski - which is closer than people think - it will be a strange day for the Yankees.
His consistency over the last 12 years has been crazy good and just thinking about him leaving is enough to cause Yankees fans like me a lot of trepidation.

So all of you who were criticizing Coco Crisp, do you give him a break now? I think he's great, at least for the day. And yes, Mariono Rivera may just be showing his age. (Some of us are happy about that.)
