Mike Tyson's daughter dies in treadmill accident

Oh dear.

PHOENIX (AP) — Police in Phoenix say boxer Mike Tyson's 4-year-old daughter is on life support after she was found with her neck on a treadmill cable.

Police Sgt. Andy Hill said the "tragic accident" happened Monday morning at Tyson's home when the girl's 7-year-old brother found her on a treadmill with her neck on a cable attached to the exercise machine.

The boy told the girl's mother from another room. She took the girl off the cable, called 911 and tried to revive her.

Hill said the girl is now in "extremely critical condition" and on life support.

Hill said Mike Tyson was out of town but returned to Phoenix immediately after learning of the accident.

Calls to Tyson's representatives were either not returned or not answered.

What does that mean, 'her neck on a cable'? Meaning her head was through a loop? Or her neck was on an electrical cable?

Either way, horrible story, but really poorly explained.

I thought it meant she got caught or twisted herself around one of those heart-rate monitors (that are attached to the machine by a cable.) The cables aren't very long, but a 4-year-old's neck isn't very big, either. Very sad story. Hope she pulls through.

I'm thinking this is likely a cross country skiing machine, not a treadmill. But we'll just have to wait and see.

The guy had a hard enough life and has gone through so much already. And despite his past pain being primarily self-inflicted, this is so, so sad.

Doesn't mention if Tyson and the mother are married. I can't imagine the horror the mom must have gone through, finding her daughter like that.

After reading what Don King did to Tyson, it's hard to root against the guy.

Here's a fact which dropped me to the canvas: His second ex-wife Monica Turner is actually the sister of Michael Steele, he of much discussion across the way.

Here's hoping little Exodus (her real name) punches 007-373-5963.

I am having a hard time trying to visualize what happened.

My little niece had a friend who died this way--also four years old. It was a looped cord from the window blinds....she put it around her neck while she was watching TV, just leaning forward on the cord. She probably passed out from lack of oxygen, causing her to slump on the cord and cause complete blockage.

21, that is awful.

We have all of our blind cords tied up way high when they are up. We usually just keep them at half-open which keeps the cord out of her reach.

Many manufacturers of blinds now have breakaway cords, where any pressure snaps a latch on the string. Best bet is to just cut them.

But it sounds like the Tyson tragedy is one of those things you can't foresee.

(And ps, the same niece had a friend who choked on a piece of popcorn and died on his fifth birthday. Please, please, no popcorn for little ones.)

Wow. I just saw "Tyson," the documentary and there was a home movie of him playing with her. Despite all his problems, mentally and financially, he seemed quite content with his life when talking about his kids at the end. Really humanizing.

That footage was of his older daughter. Still, you're right about how he talked about his kids.

Just a terrible story.

Any story about any kid getting hurt or worse just kills me.
