How could I forget Jimmy Raye? His offense was horrible when he was the Patriots' OC.

Ditto when he held the same position with the Chiefs.

Brian Schottenheimer ran a pretty solid offense with the Jets this season.

How about a guy who coached with the Air Coryell Chargers back in the day, always seemed to have his name among candidates for jobs through the years, but for some reason never got one ... Al Saunders.

You do know that Saunders actually succeeded Coryell as the Chargers coach back in '86 or '87, right? I believe his first full season was the strike year, where SD got off to a hot start and faded miserably down the stretch.

Won't happen, but it would be kind of funny after going without a head coaching job all these years he would get another one with the Chargers.

Business is business and it's a great job, but I don't see Cowher taking it even after a year. At his resignation press conference, Marty Schottenheimer was the first person he thanked and it was pretty glowing.

I bet Chris Yandek gets the first interview with Marty. Chris Yandek said Chris Yandek has to interview a coach in the morning. (Just teasing, Chris Yandek.)

Again, utterly no reason to fire a coach who had a great season but lost a playoff game. Being a little short of perfection is no fricking reason to fire a coach.

No, but a proven lack of postseason success is. He's 5-18 in the postseason. He goes bat**** crazy when they stencil that little NFL Playoff logo on the field. In fact, the Chargers might well have finished 11-5 if road teams were allowed to do that.

His playcalling in this season's loss to NE was just plain stupid. He ran the two best teams he had at KC into the ground, including an indefensible loss to the Jim-Harbaugh led Colts. San Diego WAS NOT going to a Super Bowl with Marty at the helm. No team will go to a Super Bowl with Marty at the helm.

Wow, he perhaps screws the pooch in one of two losses the team has all season. OMFG, the world is ending. This is one of the reasons for NFL mediocrity, the insane expectations that dictate that the 31 coaches who don't win the Super Bowl are automatically vulnerable. No time to build anything.

This had nothing to do with that, though.

This was a pure personality conflict.

That will get you canned almost every time eventually.
