I'm glad to see Vox where it is on this chart.

Many, many too many journalists think it's playing it straight. it's not.

"Mainstream media" to me are the broadcast networks and other outlets that essentially let the New York Times and the Washington Post set the day's news agendas. As for those charts, they're lacking in credibility when they put CNN or USA Today in the middle or elevate some of the supposedly "highly sourced" joints that are riddled with mistakes and ax-grinding anonymous sources, as well as oft-discredited Snopes and PolitiFact "fact checkers."

Another way to view it is "mainstream media" are the places that employ "journalists," the ones who play favorites, routinely stick adjectives in front of words that don't need them (justice, speech), think their opinions belong in "news," populate newsrooms that vote 80-90% Democrat and otherwise require quote marks around their "profession."

The Economist has probably become my go-to source for reliable information and commentary.

The year when I had subscriptions to The Economist, Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal and regularly read The New York Times and three regional papers was a year when I had a lot of points of view entering my brain. Of course, I was unemployed and had a lot more time to read, and I read a lot of stuff on the whole spectrum of websites.

I'd love to know which news media outlets you think do it just right.
