I would love to know Schuerholz's reaction to this story. Why wasn't he asked?

YES! The 1982 Cardinals just became even less likable than they already were. Way to go Skates!

He had no comment. It says in there.

Ah. Skipped over that part and only saw the "Braves official" part.

Hopefully the Atlanta papers do a good follow-up and get him to talk.

A. If Schuerholz did tell other teams Smith was on drugs after 1983, he apparently was right.
B. If Lonnie shot like he played left field, Schuerholz didn't mave much to worry about.

Another load of "former drug addict reforms" bull****.

I'm ****ing sick of it.

I don't want to read or hear what former drug addicts have to say. **** 'em.

He should really focus his rage on Chuck Knoblauch for that great, Series-saving fake in Game Seven.

Am I the only one amused at the idea of a guy who had throwing problems later in his career making a fake throw to save the World Series?

It's not quite as a egregious as Wohlers throwing a slider to Leyritz and speeding up his bat, but it's pretty close. I mean, players learn in high school to pick up the third base coach 2/3 of the way between first and second, and Smith, who by that point had been playing baseball, what, 25 years, really should have known better.

I was at Wrigley Field one day in the summer of 1985 when Lonnie tagged a Cub pitch and sent it to the wall to bring runs home.
He and the Cards won something like 2-1 or some low score that day.
I never knew this sort of info about Smith. That's some damn fine reporting. A good, interesting enterprise piece.

Schuerholz didn't comment because, like many other Braves supporters, he concocted his own plot to kill Lonnie Smith after that horrible display of baserunning.

The bullet never would have made it to Schuerholz. It would have been short, taken a couple bounces and stopped a few inches short of John's feet.

Who in baseball had a fatter ass in relation to the rest of his body than Lonnie Smith?

So, was he the J.R. Reid of the majors?
