He was "traded" to CBS for football coverage for Don Criqui, did some Olympics for ABC in '76, later hosted The American Sportsman until 1985. Coined "the Grandaddy of them All."

My memory of Curt Gowdy is that he was awful — he’d get stuff wrong all the time. The one that sticks with me is when he did the game in which Aaron hit his 715th home run. Gowdy referred to Braves mascot Chief Noc-A-Homa (knock-a-homer, get it?) as Chief Nokohama.

Went from Wyoming to doing college football and hoops plus minor league baseball in OKC before joining the Yankees (after Russ Hodges moved to the Giants) before the Red Sox. But his passion was "The American Sportsman."
