Man. Alice and “Kiss My Grits” were ubiquitous in my childhood. For that matter, practically anything CBS ran in the early 80s had my parents’ attention.

I have a bad habit (which I'm sure many of us have) of procrastinating writing assignments and then burning the midnight oil until 2-3 a.m. to finish everything. This usually involves having Antenna TV on as I have old episodes of Becker, Johnny Carson and other old shows on in the background as I scour notes for quotes. Many a time, I've been finishing up as Alice is ending and I sit and realize, "holy hell, we were just totally cool with casual sexism back then."

When I was a kid, one of my friends mentioned a few times that his uncle lived in Florida and wrote for Sports Illustrated, and he showed us his name in the masthead.
It was Martin Dardis.
Thought it was neat, but until this post led me down a rabbit hole I had no idea that "Uncle Marty" was also involved in the Watergate case, breaking the Pete Rose story, and apparently lived a hell of a crazy life. Weird world we live in.
