Because he satirized racism against Asians, basically:

Yeah, it's idiotic.... He was trying to make a point.

It goes back to the "What are we going to be outraged about today?" thread.

People need to get a sense of humor.

It reminds me of when people got up in arms about the New Yorker cover satirizing the McCain campaign's characterization of Obama as a radical.

A few months ago some group was trying to get Kimmel fired for something a kid said during a segment on his show.

That "group" was the Chinese government.

I enjoyed when he pointed out what a complete tool Dave Zirin is.

Another genius checks in:

Stephen Colbert can try to blow off his "Ching Chong Ding-Dong" skit as a joke all he wants -- former NFL All-Pro Dat Nguyen thinks Colbert NEEDS to apologize, and he's shocked he hasn't yet.

Ex-Dallas Cowboys star Nguyen says he's not buying the "just for comedy" excuse -- telling us, "Whether you think you're right or wrong, if people are hurt, you should apologize."

Nguyen -- who is Vietnamese-American -- compared Colbert's comments to Riley Cooper ... the Eagles receiver who screamed the n-word at a concert last year.

Cooper had to apologize, and Nguyen says Colbert should too because ... "Asian Americans are the same as African American, Hispanic Americans, anyone, we deserve to be respected too."

I have no sympathy whatsoever for a guy whose entire schtick is annoying smugness.

I wonder if he does apologize. I don't think he did anything wrong, but that doesn't mean he won't either clarify his comments. I'm guessing since he did it over Twitter, if an apology comes, it will be on Twitter and not on the show.

To bad Twitter wasn't around back in the day....

@WashingtonNFL And our team name will be the Washington Redskins!

We as a nation have been able to whittle down our (fixed) collective indignation to 140 characters. #Progress.

The article says the Twitter account on which it the tweet was posted is "not affiliated with Stephen or the show." It's run by Comedy Central pr flaks, and it appears to be common practice to quote jokes from the show on the feed. Unfortunately, without the context of the bit, this came off pretty ugly.

Colbert has no reason to apologize. Frankly, neither does Comedy Central.

How does Dat Nguyen, former Cowboy and current sports radio guy, not get what Colbert's doing?

Maybe it's because Snyder's thing has been mocked quite a bit locally, but it seemed like even without the video clip of the whole bit it was extremely clear what the joke was and who was the butt of it.

Except they were already nicknamed the Redskins when they moved from Boston.

What happens a lot, and I have no idea if that is the case here, but a lot of times people are asked about these "mini-scandals" and the first they're hearing of it is from the reporter/talk show host who is looking for a quote or reaction. If that question is asked without proper context, we shouldn't be surprised by the response.
