Even if you think she was tooting her own horn a bit too loudly, it amazes me that so many folks would be offended by it, and direct so much **** towards her.

Elk Grove, Calif., mother and fitness buff Maria Kang has ignited a firestorm in cyberspace with her "what's your excuse?" Facebook photo, which shows her in a sports bra and short shorts, posing with her three young sons.

Some call it flattering and inspiring, others call it insulting and overly revealing, but Kang's photo has gone viral -- and global -- as media outlets from California to London have covered the controversy.

Posters and bloggers have accused Kang, 32, of "fat shaming," claiming her photo suggests that all women can look like her if they just work hard enough.

Women are allowed to work out and be healthy, but they become sluts if they're proud of the effect it had on their bodies.

My guess is she's blessed with a body and metabolism that allow her to continue to look like that. So, congratulations to her for having the gall to question the motivation of others who may simply not have won the genetic lottery.

Being overweight and out of shape is a choice for the vast majority of Americans. You don't have to look like her, but it's incredibly simple to live a healthy lifestyle if you want to.

Did you read the link?

I did after I posted. I feel a little chagrined.

But then I see this:

I won't go into details that I struggled with my genetics, had an eating disorder....

And then she goes into details about "binging and purging three times a day, five times a week for four years straight."

I won't even mention how I didn't give into cravings for ice cream, french fries or chocolate while pregnant or use my growing belly as an excuse to be inactive.

Mentions it while saying she won't mention it. SMH.

So, while my original assumption may not be valid, I'm not feeling too sorry for her that she's getting bashed.

Eh, I think it's rough that she's getting blasted for being a "bully" when she just strikes me as someone who's not an especially articulate writer or completely polished when it comes to manners. My impression of her was that she was basically trying to do a bit of a Jillian Michaels thing, which I don't really view at the worst thing in the world. Some people respond to that sort of kick in the ass treatment, some people don't.

Eight months old? The way that kid is positioned, it looks like he just plopped out of her hoo-ha.

My wife's step-sister has three kids, three baby daddies. None of the kids look alike or like her. It's amusing.

All one father.

You, especially, should know that with bi-racial kids, they can look pretty different:

15) Are those your kids? They all look different.

I have to say this is the funniest comment I’ve read. Of course, my children look like both the mother and father. I am half Malaysian Chinese and Filipina. My husband is a Caucasian mix of German, French, Norweigan and Spanish. They are all my kids and you can read my 3 year old, Christian’s Birthday story, my 2 year old, Nicholas’ Birthday story and my 9 month old, Gabriel’s Birthday story on my website, Mariakang.com.

The "genetic lottery" doesn't pay out that way. I don't care who you are. You worked to get a body like that. Especially after having kids.

Plus, I just read on about this woman. She sounds a bit messed up. Has had weight problems (there goes the genetic lottery theory) and struggled with bulimia before getting that fit.

Plus, she says a reason she became so passionate about fitness was that her mom -- those genes -- died young. Her mom had diabetes, heart disease, kidney failure and a stroke at a young age.

This is just so wrong. If you want a metabolism that works like that, you have to exercise and build lean muscle.

Except in rare cases, we all have the ability to get in shape. It just takes hard work and discipline. To dismiss folks who are in good shape as winners of a genetic lottery is not only a convenient excuse for our own shortcomings, but it also dismisses the hard work of those who are in good shape.

Her blog also says she's a stay-at-home mom (albeit a "night ninja", whatever the hell that is). With all due respect to the hard work of stay-at-home moms, they still have more time on their hands than a mother who also is working a full-time job.

She has more time to work out, rather than a mom who is exhausted from her job and then comes home to take care of her kids. She has time to start fitness classes and bring her kids to the gym so she can work out because she doesn't have work obligations.

Lack of time is an excuse.

It's about priorities. If fitness is a priority, you make the time.

I'll see your fat-shaming and double-down with some old fashioned Mommy-guilt-tripping.

"Wow. I bet her kids would love it if she spent more time with them. Too bad she's at the gym doing stomach crunches."

I don't know why everyone is so upset about this. There is such a shortage of good running backs in the world today, we need AP's spawn to help bring back old school football.

Disagree. Those running backs are now being used on defense as hybrid LBers/
DBs that have the speed to play in space.
