I know I tell this every year, but ...
I hated Thanksgiving as a kid and would have just as soon been in school.
Growing up on a family farm with everyone living within eyesight of one another, that fabled Thursday in November was a day for killing hogs, doctoring cows, building fence, cutting wood, finishing up the tobacco to take to auction, etc.
A holiday was when you didn't have to work and see everyone.
My first Norman Rockwell Thanksgiving was when I joined the Navy and left home.
After 25 years, my wife still doesn't understand why me and my mom are both indifferent to Thanksgiving.
For us, Christmas (because all the farm work was done for the year) and July 4th were the big holidays.
