iMac Question. Can Anyone Help?

I have this iMac:

Every so often, maybe twice a month, it goes to sleep on its own. And when I click the mouse, hit the space bar, move the mouse, it stays asleep.

I have to hold the power button in to shut it down. Then turn it back on.

Any ideas as to what the problem might be?

My iMac used to do that, too. I always called it a coma. Never could fix it. Just cussed and rebooted.

It happens when it hasn't been turned off for awhile.

I have decades of experience with both, and I'll take the mac 100 times out of 100.

Damn, that puts your fail rate at 100 percent. That's gotta be rough. It's ahead of the PC fail rate, but not by much.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone say they love a PC.

I've heard of people loving and hating Macs. I've heard of people hating PCs.

Usually people tolerate them.

Not sure what the problem would be but I would rather have a PC than a Mac. I grew up with nothing but Macs. Can't stand them anymore. To me, PC's are easier to use.

I'm assuming you've checked your Preferences. There may be something there. Can't say that I've ever encountered this, however.

And, no, the problem isn't that he's got a Mac. That shows sheer brilliance.

My PC acts the same way sometimes, though not twice a month. After I've held in the power button and gotten it to reboot, it informs me that "Windows [XP] has recovered from a serious problem." I never really know what caused it to refuse to continue without a restart. But it's no big thing. We probably should go back to Square One every now and then, just on general principles.

I love PCs. I've said it before. Guess Claude has missed the 18 other threads on which people tell the Mac Clones to shove it.

Never had that problem with mine. It's a few years old. Have you contacted Apple yet? When my original iMac (the goofy-shaped one) started having problems, Apple tech support was outstanding.

We thought ours was a connection problem at the source going into the laptop - and it was.

But then we found it was a crack in the motherboard that continued to split and once again, did that.

I had the same problem with my older iMac. It was a bad board. Fairly common problem. Apple extended the warranty for it, and I had mine fixed last year. I would have thought the newer ones avoided this, but maybe not.
